What the artist is trying to say:
Enlarged 30 times life, this black widow spider resembles my interpretation of “Shelob”, the guardian of the pass to the Middle Kingdom in Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings”. Kim Strong of Canning, NS commissioned the sculpture and it currently resides in front of the decommissioned Anglican Church on Main Street in Canning. He lives in the church.
